Beyond its beautiful beaches, because Halkidiki is more than that. The two waterfalls of Varvara are in a beautiful area in hilly North Halkidiki. They can be found on the way between Olympiada village and Varvara.
Varvara’s Waterfalls are a paradise in hilly Halkidiki that not many people knew about a few years ago.
A river called Mavrolakas marks the line between Olympiada and Varvara. This is where the water stops. There are beeches and willow trees in the area around the house that make it look even more beautiful.
It is easier to get there from Olympiada. After 6 km, there will be a small sign on the right that says “Varvara Waterfalls.” From there, there is a dirt road that goes downhill. A regular car can use this road, and it was just recently made more available by the local government.
There is a wooden gazebo at the end of this dirt road. That’s where you can park the car.
One waterfall is on the left (Waterfall 1), which is 320 m away, and the other is on the right (Waterfall 2). Both should be reached on foot.
If you take the easy-to-reach road on the left, you’ll reach the first waterfall and a magical natural scene.
You will take the right road to get to the second waterfall. If you follow the road, you’ll be able to see the falls from above.
You can cross the small river to see the bottom if you want to, but it is not recommended for older people or kids.
As long as you are in the Eastern Halkidiki area, you should not miss a day trip to the waterfalls.
